It started as a rumour a few days ago, but reports and leaks from the ex-employees seem to be confirming that it has indeed closed down. I expect something can be salvaged, as the Stalker franchise has value, and some the development team may stick together, but it's sad and depressing that the developer is no more. Some of the original development team left a few years ago to form a spin off company, and they made the excellent "Metro 2033", which is obviously set in the Stalker universe, and the sequel "Metro: Last Light" has been announced.
As for Stalker 2, well as at today, it seems to be RIP, but hopefully something phoenix like will arise from the ashes. In the interim, I'm curious to know exactly why they closed down, but they aren't presently responding to official media enquiries, so we are a bit in the dark.
For anyone who played the three Stalker games, and fell in love with the unique world and game play, I am sure you will all join me in a silent wibble, and a quiet weep.

Stalker Developer closes down
Some really good atmospheric games and a shame that no more will follow.
