Has anyone here got the Virgin Media 50mb broadband package?

If so, whats it like? Is it as fast as they make out?

I've been offered an upgrade from 10mb to 50mb for an extra £3/month :o

Just been reading the small print (really small!).

Its £3 month extra with a £55 installation fee (BAM!!!!!!)

They dont trust 'joe publics' to plug new modems in so must send out an engineer to show me how its done.

Its also states a minimum 12 month contract and says "wireless enabled equipment required", not sure if they mean they throw in a free wireless router (hence wireless gear required to use it) or if the modem they send out only works wirelessly...which would be useless for me and my uber wired ethernet requirements.

Having checked their forums, there appears to be many people unhappy with the quality of the service, connections dropping, speeds really low, modems locking up, etc.

Lucky Bastards I'm still stuck in the sticks and the most the line can handle is 6.5mb, yeah 2mb more like.
scarybaby

i'm currently with virgin in my student digs,i have the XL package 20Mb/s and obviously its not as fast as advertised but overall i am happy when downloading i often get speeds of 1.5MB/s from a good host sometimes up to 2,uploads not that great though i get about 1 Mb/s up (about 75kbs),cant say that i have seen to much throttling going on i just recommend not downloading between 5-10 at night and i think its a pretty good deal overall.
Im pretty sure you can decline the installation charge if you want
for the wireless equipment required im pretty sure they just mean they are not going to send you out more equipment like they do when you first sign up.
also check that its £3 a months every month not the old for the first 3 month trick

hope this helps :salute:

im with them and have the 50mb package.

i get 5-6mb download speed and 1.5/6mb upload speed, never had any real problems with slow speed etc.

the engineer thing is just so they can set your best SNR to the cable box really, when he came to mine i plugged it all in haha and he just sat around.

you get a new modem and a dlink router and wireless N usb stick (which i have never even opened)

the router come on v1.0 software but you can update to (i think the latest is 3.4 or something) but it doesnt list the proper product code on the dlink website but they are the same.

done ages ago http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=8 ... =623345141

and http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=8 ... =623345141

for £3 a month more i would do it!

He doesnt like BC2 Porky, he had audio set to WAR TAPES and noticed there wasnt enough swearing in it.

@ James: ta for the info...still not decided yet...its not like my 10mb is slow plus I already get good pings for gaming.
