right i bought it from steam first impressions were that it was childish the start screens and menu pages are poor quality
when you actually start flying the graphics are impressive the cockpits are realistic and the water effects are very convincing
as usual you start with a few keys bound but have to do quite a lot of fiddling to get the controls set up.
(i had the game play set to realistic when i tested it) i still haven't got everything set up properly for instance operating a gun turret is move complex than il2
getting airbourne wasnt too difficult but trying to down an enemy plane was bloody hard i didn't think i'd actually scored any hits until i stopped the game and looked at the stats board (and if i'm reading it correctly) i managed approx 44% damage on one aircraft out of three i attacked and that took all my effort and skill!!
i also tried taking off in a two engined aircraft and however much i tried i could not keep it straight and crashed i suspect that you have to bind the tailwheel or use wheel brakes as well as the joystick which would be very difficult but i only had a quick hour or so playing so early days yet.
if the modders get hold of this in the same way they did with il2 1946 then with the improved graphics this could be a winner but it is early days il2 1946 still has the edge in enjoyment !!

Update:
It's here - went for the Saitek Cyborg v1 in the end as it was an ambidextrous stick.

Speaking of flight sims, just discovered another one called Rise of Flight (WWI).

Hurricane / Spitfire start-up sequence with complex engine management:
fuel c o c k: main tank
mixture: full rich
prop: fully fine
thottle: 1/2 inch open (10%)
Magneto 1: on
Maagneto 2: on
Shout contact! Start the engine
Interesting factoid:
The main tanks were below the engine and the pump would not operate until the engine was running. So the reserve (gravity) tank was used to start the Hurricane Mk.I, this was fixed in the Mk.II and that could start on main tanks.

Well my trackir turned up and it is awesome.
Have mastered starting the engine on the spitfires and hurricanes with complex engine management and have even been tweaking elevator trim in flight to neutralise the spitfires tendancy to fly nose up....so my arm doesn't hurt so much lol.
Went online and there are only about a dozen servers and most of them are empty plus they are ultra realistic so. I get lost alot lol.
Had some guy flying in formation with me, that was cool.
