pre-ordering

Hi guys,
I have never pre-ordred before so my question is.
If i pre-order does the game get delivered the day of release or do i wait a couple of days due to postage?

Never done it myself, but I thought the whole point was to guarantee reciept on the day of release?

I did it with Crysis and they forgot me
some days after release I had to go to the store and shout at them

im just going pc world on the day to buy it, though I have heard of people ordering via play.com getting it a day earlier than release!
