sounds like pcie slots have gone, like on my new mobo that i had to rma a while ago (that killed the 4870 by delaminating the connector tabs on it as it died)took out the card and both pcie slots..
only thing i can think of now are
somthings grounding the board either onthe board itself or when built into tower
could be a cold solder joint on the board that has suddenly deceided enough is enough
BUY the cheapest thing available as for thermal paste again ordinary generec stuff from were u get the board from will do
just had a google hows this cheap cheerful//cant read it like my noodllanders cack
http://www.paradigit.nl/PARADIGIT/produ ... fault.aspx

in NL there are sites which bring together all wellknown webshops and whats on stock. easier to compare.
hardware.info
tweakers.net
Just wondering if Micro ATX will cut it since I have
1 graphics card,
1 seperate soundcard,
1 usb3 card and
4 sticks of 1GB RAM.

cant be arse saying but its all here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroATX
mainly some items are missed off as it retains a certain size to comply being labeled matx thats not a worry nowadays as ide ,floppy and other items have beeen phased out thus space is there for other crap
problem youll get now is
A.intel have moved on the companys must follow i7/i5 boards
b.the boards will not only increase in price for that socket but will also be phased out or made from cheap parts later on but still retain a silly price
c.the socket may get a overhaul and made into ddr3 so you,d have to swap ram
P5B-DE
the asrock looks fine as it has the 2 pcie lanes for the add in cards
just pop to asrock and check the boards specs/its only Asustek made anyway prolly goes thru less tests at the end on manufacture
as long as you have the 4xram slot n 3 x pcie it should trundle along fine just might mean oc might be hit/miss a bit/have no issues with the asscock matx here still ocs and trundles on

Ordered the ASRock P5B-DE with MX2 thermal paste.
It better be working out or else I won't be responsible for my actions.
btw whats the best way clean off the thermal paste residu of the cpu? nailpolish remover, terpentine or some special stuff?

I use an alcohol cleaner called isoclene.
Ive read mixed reports on using nail remover (acetone).

cleaning tip
rub it with bog roll
then polish it with shirt sleeve well anything clean u have on
for sticky stuff i use either alchohol (any old stinky stuff i have in bathroom cabinet last i used was joop as id ran out of aramis)or nail varnish remover you can buy isopropol but again the above all work fine if you do use them i still wipe over it after with sleeve/bog roll
yes ive even tried the toothpaste as filler and it works to a point jams not as good neither are beef and onion crisps
