new mobo, new hope... false hope, nothing yet again. :x

psu+mobo+ram+graphics card = no change. (tried dif. sticks of ram)

1> Mobo shorting out on case?

2> Mobo BIOS doesnt recognise your CPU (I had this problem)?

ok hanzel answer the following

did you try all the old components in the new board /nvidia 8800gt did anything apear to happen ??????

did u try the new ati card ?

does the board seem to be working//flashing lights etc

have you checked the psu pins they may be working but when clipped into a board one may not be making corect contact/the psu under load may also be triping to a diffrent power state thus not working correctly

important questions i wanrt answered

can you get any bios screen up / when doing this do not add a hdd as its easier to get one without it connected

have you got another 775 socket cpu you can try?? this is the important question !!

do you have an ordinary power supply unit /just a 20/4 + 4 pin out one /very important this as we can try that one too later

next step will be posted after u answer these

Tried new mobo with new gpu (8800 bin'ed, didnt seem to work in other system), 1 of 4 sticks of same old ram, old psu and old cpu cooler. 2 different monitors/monitor cables/lead cables with and without hdd attached

the new gpu needs 2 4pin connectors but also came with hdd-to-4pin cable, first I tried both options... 2 4pin cables of psu and 2 hdd-to-4pin cables (difference)

does the board seem to be working//flashing lights etc
Asrock board doesnt have a led, but all the fans(gpu/cpu cooler) seems to be running, hdd makes an idle sound after fires up but the asrock mobo/manual is a bit unclear where to stick the front panel power/reset/hdd led connectors tho the power button seemed to work but hddled not (manual)

all psu pins connected properly, nice in place and not forced

important questions i wanrt answered

no signal, even after manual detect button on monitor

E6600 is only one at hand

do you have an ordinary power supply unit /just a 20/4 + 4 pin out one /very important this as we can try that one too later
all the other (old) pc's here only have a 20pin connector on the psu (200w)

next step will be posted after u answer these

Hope this helps.

reason i say 20/4 and 4 pin psu is because the mobo(asscock) can run on old power source see manual for explanation on connecting up an old psu using 20 pin in 24 pin slot and a 4 pin in the 8 slot

then all you,d have to do is power the gpu with seperate psu
remember all were after is the bios screen/beeps so even a gpu aint needed

as for the pin in for the comp case you dont need them "just yet" .all you need to do is find the front panel on off jumper and use a screw driver to turn it on (short the two pins for a second like the switch does on the case this makes it easier to test outside the case)

cpu is dead !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

send me a pm if you want me to send a 775 cpu over to double check
intel 420 celeron this may be the only option to rule out dead cpu

just on another idea take the cpu out clean it .flip it over clean the bottom connectors with nail varnish remover/old rag/aftershave take ur pick and check all the components are still there or if any look odd or even burnt then retry

edit
about the asrock mobo pin outs and another issue id like u to try
check your ps2-usb-pwr1 pins are set 1.2 not 2.3 see manual

the front panel header goes like this

powerled , power switch
. . . .
. . . . .
hdd light , reset switch , dummy pin

after reading your issue my conclusion is

psu has +5volt issues
using a connector tester will never tell you this as it only tests wether current is passing .that current could be +1 volts and not the 5 its asking

cpu has somehow killed its self (rogue clogg splinter has somehow entered the case could be a cheese slice )
either way the 24 pin is powering the boards you have .its the 8 pin that powers the cpu at fault

use the 4 pin from the psu to test see asrock manual for 4 pin use .then use the other 2 4 pin extensions for the graphics card

i dont have a clue what tagan u have so no idea as of the connectors that come with it :)

newer psu testers have a display (not mine :~ )

Image

as for my psu, I have a TG700-U25

I tried the TAGAN 20pin in the ATX Power Connector and 4pin in the ATX 12V Connector. And a separate psu (200w) with 2 4pin-molex-to-6pin-pci-express cables(no 4pins, my bad) powering the gpu (AMD 6790) with no hdd attached, 1 stick of ram.
outcome: quite the setup but still no signal.
*forgot to try a different sticks of ram/ram slots

I could clean the cpu again, but I would have noticed a burn mark while transferring it between mobo's last week.

Since I don't have all the resources(spare parts) at home, I might consider taking it to the shop if it's not fixed by the time my new rig parts are here (10days).

non the less I'm thankfull for all of your help so far (umbongo too once i decipher your writings  )

cpu
not the lided side the underside that sits out of view .the gold connecters and components. see if any are missing or look damaged
also give the socket a quick once over for bent pins

ok here goes having looked at the power supply
you could give this a shot
24 pin to mobo
spare 4 pin to 8 pin
6pin and molex 6 pin adapter /or/ 2 molex adapters and the above connections

as for when you tried the 200watt psu//this should be enough power for a boot with the amd card

how was it connected ?
so far i got this
2 x 6pin molex adapters
how did u connect the 20 pin connector ? on the 200 watt psu
the molex wont work without it being powered on , not just by plugging it into the wall socket

i wont go into electrical stuff and i dont doubt your competance .but i also dont want to be blamed for frying hanz   :( if it was welshy then ?? :D :p

the other way is if you know a friend who has a power hungry system (make it power hungry running orthos or fur mark etc) and test the psu out with your new card .
dosent matter what make intel/amd as it will eliminate them both .(note some board take 4 pin instead of 8 pin so bear this in mind when u do the test slightly older systems should eat more power due to the larger cpu die
leaving new/old mobo and cpu as culprits but the probability of 2 duff boards?// u have too many sticks of ram for them all to be dead

i can send the cpu if you want should be 3 days in post.its up to you and it will show wether the old board is dead and the new one is dead
intel celeron 420 1.6 ghz

think core 2 duos had a 3 year warranty youll have to check this one out if it does turn out cpu

ps:::the amd card draws less than 100watts of power in full use. idles around 14 mark
