I sorted a lappy out for someone last night and ended up installing windows vista 64 bit and found that the same problem occured when I tried it upon first release... poor support for drivers, escpecially those upgrading from windows xp.

Now I got a Phenom x4 processor in my pc but im using a 32bit version of windows 7...

Firstly, what does everyone else use for gaming preferences?
secondly, how would the 64 bit version of windows 7 improve the running of my pc, if at all?

Probably a noob question but as ive only used 64bit OS for a very short period of time I never really got to notice the difference..

Windows 7 is how vista should have been 'out of the box'.

Windows 7 has better driver support from hardware manufacturers.

64bit is only worth it if you have 4gb or more in memory.

I use win 7 64bit as i have 6gb ram and love it.

ive found that to get any performance out of win7 32bit i had to go in and turn lots of crap off and just recently had to do the
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled to download properly

and turn all the supposed easy crap off that takes donkeys to find

now works as fast as my xp :) on the same drive

Never really noticed any difference between Win 7 on 64 or 32 either, as they both seem the same to me. Like you, I'm not sure there is a difference to the naked eye. Win performance score on my PC is between 7.7 - 7.9, so I leave it on 64 bit as there is no performance hit.

The single greatest improvement I have seen in recent years is SATA hard drives, as they really do turn your PC and it's programmes on and off at lightening fast speeds.

Do you mean SATA or SSD drives Plum?

Whilst they will load apps faster, once loaded they dont really offer any advantage for games from what ive read....bar maybe ARMA series due to the way in which the game engine streams.

Me bad. Meant SSD, typed SATA as I have a couple.

Yes, it makes no difference to game performance, but the speed boost to loading things is amazing.

How fast? How about all of the different Microsoft Office programmes opened simultaneously in just 0.5 seconds.

Cheers for the feedback fellas,

I dont have the privilage of owning DDR3 RAM or the I3 -I5 processors etc like some one here .... I rushed out and bought a ready built machine for BF3 and then upgraded a few components, CPU and GFX card...

I suppose with the amount ive spent on the upgrade and the original standing cost I would have been better going out and building custom... but im a lazy [f*cker], so what.... :D

well for now, until it breaks then ill stick with win 7 x86, which wont be too long, my game has crashed a few times this week but I cant be assed with the big install/downloading of updates again.
