Just clutching at straws, but I know that you are best having your hard drive(s) and DVD on their own SATA channels for performance.
Is your intermittent slave drive sharing a SATA channel with another SATA device (ie: hard drive / DVD)?

nope all on there own SATA channel (this one is on number 3)
number 1 has SSD
2 has DVD
3 this little critter
4 another HD but no probs with this one
i also have another to add tonight lol
i may swap number 3 with 4 and see what happens, but because it happened on my old pc (but rarely) i think it maybe a spin-up problem with the drive..?

Have a look in the bios and see if there's a HD delay or Wait for HD (usually between 0 and 5 secs) although hd spin up would normally only show up on cold boot as on restart the drive's already spinning. If it's a warm boot problem it could be the controller (on the drive) getting too hot, try HWMonitor to check the drive temp and run the manufactuers diagnostic program.

check for firmware update ..go to drive site imput sn/ code ..if seagate or maxtor drive download drive tool to give it a quick diognostic,,if it still fails do low level format, using drives software from their site
also stick dvd on sata 4 so its last to be checked on boot
your board sata
Intel ICH10R controller
6 xSATA 3.0 Gb/s ports
Intel Matrix Storage Technology Support RAID 0,1,5,10
Marvell® 9128 PCIe SATA 6Gb/s controller (Drive Xpert Technology)
- 2 x SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports (gray)
- Supports EZ Backup and SuperSpeed functions
so try on one of the normal non 6gb sata,s
sata connector photo of your board use the non white ones

so go ssd sata 6gb 1 then hdd drive that works and is detected 6gbs 2 :then on blue sata go dodgy sata hdd 1 then put dvd on its own so it is checked for last in the que ala sata 4
have a nice day
